Looking at the DSP Sport ports

This is for an Analog Devices Sharc processor

The SPORT ports of the Analog Device series of digital signal processors are special ports for direct entry and exit of information to the DSP. Data can be entered and retrieved from the DSP without influence on the DSP core. It is like having autonomous IO handlers.

The data stream between the DSP and ADC

The DSP Sport ports have various formats for the data stream. Here is one of them:

ADC Data Waveform

The LRCLK (frame clock) rising edge triggers an interrupt in the DSP to indicate data is ready for input. The DSP then receives the data pair and begins the processing cycle. Note: on start up a LRCLK flank syschronisation is required so to ensure we obtain the data in the correct order, left channel then right channel.
